Custom officials today interdicted a large quantity of compressed marijuana from an incoming passenger at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA). The suspect, 50-year-old, Joel Cadogan, a Guyana/U.S. dual citizen has since been arrested.

Officials found four parcels of compressed cannabis, weighing 2.036 kilograms, in his suitcase. According to the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU), Cadogan entered Guyana with three large suitcases and two handpieces. He cleared immigration and was subjected to a random search by a customs official when four compressed plastic parcels of cannabis wrapped in jeans were uncovered in his luggage.

He was detained and handed over to CANU Officials at CJIA where he was arrested and escorted to CANU Headquarters in Georgetown.

When the remainder of his luggage was searched, several pairs of sneakers were found to have been stuffed with numerous small empty Ziploc bags, and a tabletop scale.

He is expected to be taken to court on Wednesday.
