21-year-old Orlando Orin Ormando Richards was remanded to prison after being charged over the murder of retired priest, George Chuck-A-Sang.

He appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Friday last when he was remanded to the Lusignan Prison, until May 28.

Richards was charged today and two others,
Rawle McPherson, 45, of Victoria, East Coast Demerara and Mohanie Mohabir, 43, of Corentyne Berbice were also remanded for the murder in February.

A wanted bulletin was issued for Richards on February 17 and he was arrested by police on April 22.

The capital offense states that between December 21 and December 23, 2020, at the St. Sidwell’s Anglican Church, Vlissengen Road, Lodge, Georgetown, he murdered George Chuck-A-Sang.

Guyana Standard previously reported the 82-year-old retired priest was found dead in his home on December 21.

According to the Police, his daughter, Renata Chuck-A-Sang said that she made contact with her father the Friday before his death and they spoke as per normal. However, when she tried to make contact with him on the day his body was discovered, the attempts were futile. She subsequently went to the home of the now-deceased but was unable to make contact with him.

As a result, she went to the residence of St. Sidwell’s current priest, Monsell Alves, at North-East La Penitence and told him she was unable to contact her father. As such, they both went into her father’s home and they discovered the body of the deceased lying motionless on the floor clad only in his underwear on the upper floor of the building.

Several stab wounds were seen about his body and his forehead appeared swollen. Following the discovery, he was escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
In March of 2017, Chuck-A-Sang was appointed as Chairman of the Commission of Inquiry into Land Ownership.
