A JetBlue passenger who was busted with 1.520 kilograms of cocaine at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) was today charged and remanded.

Adyemi Dumisani Hinds, a gold miner of Iguana Drive, North Ruimveldt, appeared at the Diamond/Grove Magistrates’ Courts where Magistrate Judy Latchman read the charge to him.

It is alleged that on June 1, at CJIA, he had in his possession 1.520 kilograms (3.351 lbs) of cocaine, for the purpose of trafficking.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded until June 29.

Guyana Standard understands that on Tuesday at 10:36 p.m., he was arrested by Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) agents who alleged that the suspected narcotics were found in the man’s hand luggage. The agency said that the man was arrested after the ranks “pulled a small, black hand luggage” at the screening point at the airport. It further said that the check was “based on suspicion”.

Hinds was scheduled to leave for the United States on a JetBlue flight, however after the white powdery substance was revealed, the man was escorted to the CANU headquarters, where a test reportedly confirmed that the substance is cocaine.
