Region Six (East Berbice/Corentyne) has issued first dose COVID-19 vaccines to more than half of its adult population, Health Minister Dr Frank Anthony has revealed.

During his daily update today, the Minister noted that the vaccination exercise continues to gain momentum in other regions as well, with the exception of Region Ten, which continues to lag.

Nationally, some 214,251 persons have received their first dose. This represents 44% of the country’s adult population, with 79,802 (16.4%) receiving the second dose.

The regional breakdown of vaccination (first dose) is as follows:

Region One (Barima/Waini) – 51%
Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam) – 41.4%
Region Three (Essequibo Islands/West Demerara) – 43.8%
Region Four (Demerara/Mahaica) – 45.2%
Region Five (Mahaica/Berbice) – 47.8%
Region Six (East Berbice/Corentyne) – 51.9%
Region Seven (Cuyuni/Mazaruni) – 43.6%
Region Eight (Potaro/Siparuni) – 28.3%
Region Nine (Upper Takutu/Upper Essequibo) – 41.9%
Region Ten (Upper Demerara/Berbice) – 13%

The Minister is urging first dose recipients to return for their second jab.

Vaccines being issues in Guyana includes: AstraZeneca, Sinopharm and Sputnik V.
