A 25-year-old Better Hope, East Coast Demerara man is in police custody after officers uncovered cocaine and marijuana where he was seated alongside a road.
A party of policemen in the Sparendaam Station district conducted a mass stop and search exercise last evening, during which, a search was conducted on the person of the suspect at First Street, Better Hope.
During the search, nothing was found on his person. However, another search was carried out in the immediate area where the suspect was seated at the roadside. In the grass alongside the thoroughfare, a transparent plastic bag containing a quantity of cocaine along with a black plastic bag containing a quantity of cannabis leaves seeds and stems, were found.
The suspect was cautioned, and he denied ownership of the narcotics. He was arrested and taken to the Sparendaam Police Station.
The leaves, seeds, and stems weighed 80 grams and the cocaine weighed 10 grams.
The suspect refused to give a statement and was placed in custody pending charges.
