Motorcyclist Leroy Forde, 21, of 76 Graham Street, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara (ECD) and pillion rider, Quain Whyte, 20, a police constable of Turkeyen, ECD, are now patients of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation after they were struck down last evening at Ogle, ECD.

Police say that the duo was on motorcycle CH 5797, proceeding north along the western side of the said road when motor jeep # PJJ 5014, owned and driven by Nateram Ruplall, 45, of Ogle, East Coast Demerara, collided with the men. The pillion rider was not wearing a helmet.

Guyana Standard understands that the jeep swerved from south to west, across the road into the path of the motorcycle. As a result of the collision, the driver along with the pillion rider fell onto the road surface and received injuries to their necks and other parts of their bodies.

They were both picked up in a conscious state with help from public-spirited citizens and placed in an ambulance, which took them to Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.

The driver of the motorcycle is said to be suffering from a broken right leg and injuries to other parts of his body. He was admitted as a patient, while the pillion rider is suffering from injuries to his neck and other parts of his body. He was also admitted.

A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver of motor jeep PJJ 5014 and he was found to be above the prescribed limit, with readings of 0.162% and 0.175 % micrograms of alcohol in his breath.

He was arrested and placed in custody as enquiries continue.
