Human Services and Social Security Minister, Dr Vindhya Persaud has chided Opposition Member of Parliament (MP), Sherod Duncan for sharing a jingle on his Facebook page, which describes the Education Minister, Priya Manickchand as a ‘wild hog’ that needs taming.
The Opposition MP, however, seems unfazed by the mounting condemnation, asking Dr. Persaud to meet him in “The Ring”, his online programme.
Dr. Persaud said in a Facebook post earlier today, that “the lawless and disrespectful onslaught by sitting MP. Sherod Duncan on Minister of Education Priya Manikchand through a recent jingle and utterances using vile terms and references is most repugnant and must be unhesitatingly condemned.”
She said that in a world where people are all fighting for the rights and respect of women every day, it is ‘contemptible” that an MP who sits in the highest forum of the land will “spew and share this level of nastiness against a woman”.
The Minister said that while she understands that there may be opposing views on many issues, disagreements must never descend to vulgarity.
“This is unacceptable and these perpetrators must be called out. I condemn this utterly disgusting kind of behavior and I hope those who speak out on respect for women will join me in condemning this,” she said.
