For nearly 30 years, over 50 families in a small community known as Area Z, Non-Pariel, East Coast Demerara have been waiting for Certificates of Title to house lots allocated to them by the Guyana Sugar Corporation, by virtue of their employment with the company.

Yesterday, 46 Certificates of Title were handed over to those families.

Minister of Legal Affairs and Attorney General, Anil Nandlall hailed the development as an accomplishment and a “promise delivered” by the Irfaan Ali-lex administration.

He said that the situation was drawn to the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C)’s attention around 2014, one year before the party was voted out of office after spending 23 years as government. Nandlall said that the process commenced that year but was halted in 2015 when the David Granger-led A Partnership for National Unity + Alliance for Change (APNU+AFC) assumed office.

Following its win at the March 2020 General and Regional Elections, the PPP/C reaffirmed its commitment to fulfilling that promise. The titles were distributed yesterday at a “bottom house” of one of the residents.
