Marlon Vossey, a 20-year-old unemployed man of No. 5 Village, West Coast Berbice, and Shaquille McDonald, a 21-year-old unemployed male of Independence Boulevard, La Penitence were arrested three days ago and charged for Robbery Under Arms. The charge was laid under Section 222(c) of the Criminal Law Offences Act, Chapter 8:01.

The men were charged for allegedly stealing GY$1.8 million in cash and jewellery from the home of a Good Hope Essequibo Coast businessman. The 46-year old man informed police that GY$1.5 million cash and three gold chains valued GY$380,000 were stolen from his residence after he was confronted and assaulted by three individuals in his home.

The duo appeared at the Charity Magistrate’s Court today before Magistrate Ms. Lambert, where Vossey pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four years imprisonment.

The other accused, Shaqille McDonald, pleaded not guilty and was remanded to prison until November 8, 2021.

Marlon Vossey, on the same date as above and before the same Magistrate, answered to the charge of possession of firearms without a licence. The accused pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four years imprisonment along with $100,000 fine.

The third suspect is yet to be charged as he remains hospitalised from a beating he received from a resident who joined police to hunt the suspects.
