A 40-year-old Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) bar owner was last night assaulted and robbed. The incident, according to police, occurred around 20:30hrs as the man was about to lock up.

Guyana Standard understands that the victim was closing his bar when the suspect walked in and told him that he came to buy something to drink.

The victim said he is closed and the suspect then pulled out a cutlass from his pants waist area and dealt the businessman a chop to his right hand causing him to receive injuries.

He then pushed his hand into the victim’s pants pocket and took away one iPhone 6 valued $45,000 and $30,000.

The suspect then jumped the back fence and made good his escape in a northern direction. However, in the process, he dropped the mentioned articles which were recovered by the victim in his backyard.

The victim raised an alarm and the police were summoned. The businessman was escorted to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where he was seen by a doctor on duty, treated, and sent away.
