The owner of motor lorry GYY 6066 is now counting his losses after the vehicle burst into flames around 07:45hrs today along the No. 62 Village Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice.

Enquiries disclosed that the driver, 53-year-old Liston Velloza was driving his vehicle proceeding north when his right-side rear tyre blew out. This caused the vehicle to swerve to the left side parapet before stopping.

The lorry subsequently burst into flames from the engine compartment. A fire tender attached to the Skeldon Fire Station was summoned to the scene, and the fire officers went into action and extinguished the fire. The entire engine compartment and front of the lorry were destroyed. Velloza suffered no injuries. Investigations are ongoing.
