Aubrey Norton is of the firm belief that the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) quivers whenever it considers the possibility of him ascending to the position of leader of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR).

Norton said this during an exclusive interview with Guyana Standard.

The PNCR stalwart said that the importance of Saturday’s congress is no secret. He said that based on the results of the election, people will immediately have at least an idea about the direction in which the party will be heading.

Norton believes that the PPP is keeping a watchful eye on the congress. He said he is well aware that the PPP’s position is “Aubrey Norton is the man that we do not want.”

Norton claimed that several reasons can be given as to why the PPP wants anyone else but him.

He said that one of the main reasons for the PPP’s fear is that he cannot be controlled or tarnished.

The politician said, “The PPP’s modus operandi is that they like to have people who are compromised so they can use it. In my case, they will have to fabricate and trump up charges, making things a bit more difficult for them.”

Another reason given by Norton is that he is grassroots.
“The PPP knows that I am somebody on the ground and they are afraid of that. They like when we take the elitist approach,” Norton contended.

He confidently added, “I am aware of the fact that PPP sees me as its greatest nightmare and I intend to be their nightmare in the sense of doing political work etc. to make sure we can get rid of them. So, the fear is not misplaced.”
