The Guyana Police Force reported today that the suspect in the first murder for 2022 has been caught. Reports indicate that the 21-year-old arrestee allegedly killed Animal Sonja, a 51-year-old Venezuelan national at Arau mountaintop, Cuyuni River.

Information so far reveals that the deceased and suspect are known to each other, and between 02:45 hours and 03:00 hours, they were at the suspect’s sister’s camp when an argument ensued over the suspect allegedly owing the victim a quantity of raw gold. As the row escalated, the 21-year-old armed himself with a piece of wood and struck Sonja to the head causing him to fall.

The suspect thereafter made good his escape and the body of the deceased was subsequently transported to Arau mountaintop awaiting transportation to Georgetown.

Guyana Standard was informed that the suspect was later nabbed and his sister and spouse are in police custody assisting with investigations.
