See full release from the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR):

The PNCR wishes to express its utter disgust over the decision of the PPP government — as posted on the Facebook page of its Ministry of Human Services and Social Security (MHSSS) — to make the paltry increase in old-age pension and public assistance effective only from March and not from January 2022.

These already stingy payments have thus been further devalued by several thousand dollars. The PNCR views this decision as outrageous and mean-spirited, especially as our oil wealth now allows the government to better provide for low-income persons and families. The PNCR joins with those affected and other Guyanese to demand that these payments be made retroactive to January 2022.

In the larger scheme of things, the PNCR reiterates its demand that old-age pension be set at minimum $35,000 month in 2022 and that public assistance be expanded in terms of coverage, size of payments, duration of support, and ease of access by those in need.
