AGRICULTURE MINISTER, ZULFIKAR MUSTAPHA

Earlier today, Guyana’s swine farmers benefited from a donation of improved breeds to assist with the government’s overall efforts to improve the sector’s production levels.
The donation made by the Ministry of Agriculture’s Guyana Livestock Development Authority saw some 10 farmers benefiting from what are considered high performing breeds of pigs expected to produce higher quality and quantity pork once proper animal husbandry practices are followed.
The pilot project will see a total of 21 farmers receiving piglets for both breeding and meat production purposes during the second quarter of 2022.
During the presentation, Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha said given the current demand for better cuts of meat, more specifically for pork and beef, the donation is the government’s way of helping farmers to produce what is needed to tap into specialized markets locally and, in the future, regionally and internationally.
Farmers who benefited from the donation complimented the government’s efforts to boost the sector and said they look forward to future collaborations as they work to drive the sector forward.
