Police have located a vehicle suspected to have been involved in a hit-and-run accident in Berbice that has left two dead.

Guyana Standard understands that police are currently making arrangements to have it transported to the police station. The driver has promised to turn himself in.

The incident occurred last night around 23:20hrs on the Number 70 Village Public Road, Berbice.

The now-dead man has been identified as a 20-year-old carpenter, Toney Lakeram of Number 71 Village Squatting Area, while the identity of the woman, whom police say is of East Indian descent, remains unknown.

Details released so far state that an unknown vehicle was speeding north along the western drive lane on the said road when it collided with the pedestrians.

As a result of the collision, both pedestrians sustained injuries about their bodies and were later picked up by public-spirited citizens in an unconscious condition. They were taken to the Skeldon Public Hospital, where a doctor pronounced them dead on arrival.

Cops are now seeking the help of citizens who may be able to provide any information about the motor vehicle involved in the deadly hit and run to come forward as enquiries are in progress.
