The Guyana Fire Service (GFS) says that an East Coast Demerara (ECD) fire yesterday that claimed the life of 50-year-old, Nicola Marshell might have been maliciously set setting by person/persons unknown.

The Guyana Standard reported yesterday that the blaze occurred sometime around 13:00hrs, two hours after the woman, who was initially identified by police as “Nicola Jacobs” was last seen alive.

Further, it was reported that the building, located at 14 Bachelor’s Adventure was not outfitted with electricity.

The structure involved was a one-floor wooded building owned by Norma Garnette and occupied by twenty-three-year-old Alston Johnson and the now-deceased.

The Guyana Fire Service is reminding citizens that there are harsh penalties attached to arson attacks and once identified, perpetrators will face the full brunt of the law.
