A businessman is now in hot water after he “accidentally” discharged his firearm, hitting a $1.3M scanner at the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA)’s Camp Street, Georgetown head office around 15:43hrs on Wednesday.

Enquiries revealed that about 15:03hrs yesterday, the businessman visited the office to conduct business. He lodged his firearm at the Security Guard Hut and retained his magazine with rounds.

After completing his transaction, he returned to the hut and uplifted the firearm. He then turned to the southern direction hut and in the process of inserting his magazine into the firearm, a round was discharged.

The bullet struck the scanner which is situated in the guard hut.

After the round hit the scanner, the businessman exited the guard hut and went away.

Efforts to contact the businessman have been unsuccessful thus far. Investigations are in progress.
