Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha this afternoon commissioned a $24M grader at the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority’s Anna Regina office on the Essequibo Coast (Region Two).

The machine will be added to the region’s fleet and will be used to upgrade dams in rice cultivation areas.

Addressing farmers who gathered at the NDIA office, Minister Mustapha registered  government’s continued commitment to the pursuit of development for the benefit of  Guyanese. Specifically as it relates to farmers, Mustapha said that the government recognizes the importance of their contributions to the nation and as such will do as much as it can to ensure their success which is indeed a success for the country.

Farmers in the region had requested a grader, noting the constant need for dam rehabilitation.

With the government looking to double rice production, farmers present said that they were thankful for the newly commissioned piece of equipment to assist with executing the needed dam rehabilitation works.
