Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred at around 08:10hrs today on the Agricola Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD)
Dead is 66-year-old pedestrian Imtiaz Isahack of Eccles, EBD, who was struck down by a motorcar, PYY 1162, driven by a 50-year-old man from Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke-Linden Highway. The accident occurred in the vicinity of the Agricola Police Outpost.
Enquiries disclosed that the car was proceeding north along the Agricola Public Road when the 66-year-old pedestrian attempted to cross the road using a pedestrian crossing.
The driver of the motorcar alleged that the pedestrian ‘walked into his path’.
The 66-year-old man, who received several injuries to his head and body, was pronounced dead at the scene at about 08:41 hrs by EMT.
The man’s body was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital’s Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
A breathalyzer test conducted on the driver showed no trace of alcohol.
He is presently in custody assisting with the investigation.
