A New Year’s Party at a popular Movietowne bar quickly turned into a traumatizing event for dozens of patrons following a brazen shooting incident between security personnel and a group of men.

Around 04:30 hrs at the Outside Bar, cops said a car with three men turned up. Investigators said the vehicle was parked inappropriately. It was blocking the entrance to the bar hence a security guard promptly approached the men and instructed that they park elsewhere.

Guyana Standard understands that Olofie DeSantos, a 30-year-old mechanic of Bagotville, East Bank Demerara, along with Eron Baptist, 29, and his brother Errol Baptist, both of Seaforth Street, Campbellville, Georgetown, became annoyed by the instruction. The trio, who were all licensed firearm holders, exited the car and refused to move. Enraged by Sheldon Adams’ insistence that they needed to park at another part of the Movietowne establishment, one of the Baptist brothers dealt the guard a blow to his face with a Hennessy bottle.

DeSantos then allegedly pulled out a handgun from the waist of his pants and discharged several rounds in the area. Other security personnel as well as armed patrons returned fire. DeSantos was finally disarmed with three shots, one to his abdomen, chest and left forearm. The Baptist brothers quickly drove off, leaving their friend behind.

The injured guard and mechanic were taken to the hospital. Cops were called in and were successful in capturing the brothers who are said to be well known businessmen. Their car as well as their guns and ammunition were seized and lodged.

Several persons were questioned at the scene, statements were taken, and investigations are in progress.
