Cops have seized a security guard’s weapon after he claimed to have accidentally discharged a round from his .9MM Taurus pistol while ‘clearing’ the firearm. He was shot in the palm of his hand, and the bullet exited, hitting a 15-year-old boy who was assisting his brother at their Bourda Market stall.

The teen was shot in his right side abdomen. The incident occurred at around 22:00hrs on Wednesday. The teen hails from Newtown Enmore, East Coast Demerara. The 20-year-old guard, Mohan Mootoo, who was only employed by C. Mohan Security Services two weeks ago, told investigators he is not a Supernumerary Constable and is not trained to use a firearm. The gun and ammunition were seized and lodged.

Checks were made for the spent shell, but none was found. The teen victim and Mootoo were escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital where they are receiving medical attention. Their conditions are stable.

Investigations are in progress.
