Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minister, Dr. Keith Rowley is offering up his nation’s renowned oil and gas facilities for Guyana and other interested parties to use. By taking this approach, the official said regional parties would cut costs on having to construct new infrastructure and even fast track their economic development.

Speaking at this morning’s opening of the International Energy Conference and Expo -Guyana 2023, Rowley was keen to highlight that his country possesses 10 ammonia plants, seven methanol plants, four LNG plants, an iron and steel complex, and an oil refinery which recently produced up to 140,000 barrels of oil per day. Though the refinery is currently closed, he said his administration is currently scouting for potential developers to utilize it.

With the foregoing in mind, he said “Trinidad and Tobago therefore provides a viable option for those countries that wish to optimize the monetization of their hydrocarbons without incurring substantial capital expenditure and not to mention delay in monetization.”

In addition to offering up his country’s infrastructure, Rowley said his country stands ready to assist Guyana in producing a workforce of technical energy personnel to effectively monitor the sector.

Rowley said, “As an emerging major oil and gas region we have a window of opportunity to take a proactive approach in leveraging our collective knowledge to optimize new opportunities going forward…We must use our energy resources for the benefit of all our people to build resilience and create energy security.”

In conclusion, he expressed confidence that in the true Caribbean spirit, regional partners will pool their resources for the collective good.
