Ron Williams, a 29-year-old miner of Post Office Street, Queenstown, Essequibo Coast, was on Thursday sentenced to two years imprisonment along with a fine of G$200,000 following a gun and ammo charge.

Williams appeared at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Crystal Lambert where the charge was read to him.

On Tuesday, February 14, 2023, around 15:05hrs, a party of police ranks led by an Inspector was on patrol duty at Araimu Main Road, Region Seven, when the ranks stopped motor pick-up GXX 5497, driven by 29-year-old Ron Williams along with a 22-year-old male passenger sitting in the front seat of the said vehicle.

The ranks requested to search the vehicle when Williams indicated that he had a firearm in the vehicle.

The ranks examined the 12 gauge, single-barrel shotgun, which contained three 12 gauge cartridges. The serial number was also filed off.
