Meckiel Sancho, a 29-year-old security guard from Britton Street, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara (ECD), was remanded to prison on charges of possession of a firearm and ammunition without a licence, as well as unlawful wounding. Sancho was arrested by police on March 9, 2023, for the offences.

Appearing before Magistrate A. George at the Sparendam Magistrate’s Court on Friday, Sancho pleaded not guilty to the charges. The charges read to him included possession of a firearm contrary to Section 16(2)(a) of the Firearm Act Chapter 16.02, possession of ammunition without a license contrary to Section 16(2)(a) of the Firearm Act 16:02, and unlawful wounding contrary to Section 50 of the Criminal Law Offences Act Chapter 8:01, which he is alleged to have committed on Rawle Franklin.

As a result, Sancho was remanded to prison until April 25, 2023.
