A 33-year-old taxi driver of Patentia, West Bank Demerara (WBD) was earlier today busted by police with 1,361 grams of cannabis in his possession at the western end of the Demerara Harbour Bridge.

Acting on information received, at about 10:20hrs, a police constable attached to the Brickdam Police Station who was on motorcycle patrol at Agricola, went to the Demerara Harbour Bridge where he intercepted motorcar HD 1997 driven by the suspect who was proceeding west.

The driver was instructed by the rank to stop at the other end of the bridge. He was subsequently approached by the constable along with a corporal who informed him of the information received and requested to conduct a search.

During that exercise, three bulky transparent plastic bags containing cannabis leaves, seeds and stems were found in the car trunk.

The suspect was arrested and escorted to the La Grange Police Station where he remains in police custody, pending further investigations and charge.
