A vendor in Bartica has been arrested and taken into custody after police discovered marijuana and methamphetamine in his possession during a random search on Friday night.

According to police reports, officers from Regional Division Seven conducted the searches between 20:00hrs and 21:30hrs in various locations around the township. During the operation, Linden Benjamin, a 35-year-old vendor from 2nd Avenue in Bartica, was stopped and searched. Police found a black haversack on his shoulder which they searched and found 16 transparent zip-lock packs of cannabis and 25 transparent zip-lock packs of methamphetamine.

Benjamin was immediately arrested and taken to the Bartica Police Station along with the narcotics. Upon weighing the substances, it was determined that the cannabis amounted to 26 grams, while the methamphetamine weighed eight grams.

The vendor was informed of the charges against him, cautioned, and reportedly admitted to the offence. He remains in police custody as investigations continue.
