The Government of Guyana has announced its intention to present the Data Protection Bill 2023 in the National Assembly soon. As part of the government’s policy to engage in public consultations on significant pieces of proposed legislation, members of the public and national stakeholder organizations are invited to submit their recommendations and feedback on the draft Bill.

Interested parties can access the draft Bill on the Attorney General and Ministry of Legal Affairs website at www.mola.gov.gy. Submissions and recommendations can be sent to [email protected] within twenty-one (21) days from the date of the announcement. Relevant national stakeholder organizations will also be provided with copies of the draft Bill for their submissions and recommendations during a similar timeframe.

The proposed Data Protection Bill is expected to enhance the protection of individuals’ personal data in Guyana. The government believes that the input of the public and stakeholder organizations will help to strengthen the draft legislation and ensure that it meets the needs of all stakeholders.
