The Guyana Police Force has received reports of alleged threats and intimidation against citizens who exercised their right to participate in a democratic process on Nomination Day. In response, the force has established a hotline number (22-62917) which will be available 24 hours to receive reports from victims of threats and intimidation.

The police force said it has taken note of reports that individuals were intimidated, threatened, and in some cases, abused during and after Nomination Day through in-person encounters and on social media.

The police force is cautioning citizens to avoid any acts of threats, intimidation, and election offences. It is also urging individuals to report any such acts to the newly established hotline number.

As the election season continues, the GPF said it is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens in exercising their democratic rights.
