More than thirty members of the esteemed Guyanese delegation attending this year’s Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) were granted an exclusive tour of the Lindsayca/CH4 (LNDCH4) facility to gain a deeper understanding of the Gas-To-Energy project currently underway in Guyana.

The distinguished US consortium has been awarded a contract by the Guyanese government to construct an integrated natural gas facility in Wales, West Bank Demerara.

 

During their enlightening visit, the Guyana delegation, alongside the representatives of the US Embassy in Guyana, were afforded the opportunity to meet with the senior leadership of LNDCH4. This included Hector Fuentes, President of Lindsayca, and Nelson Drake, Chairman of LNDCH4. Furthermore, they received an insightful

overview of the project, which incorporated the knowledge and expertise of other similar projects undertaken worldwide, the project’s timeline in Guyana, and the lucrative procurement opportunities available.

 

According to Nelson Drake, its Chairman, the consortium’s aim is to use as much local content as possible in Guyana. He explained that it plans to engage the services of local businesses in Guyana and hire approximately 1,500 – 2,000 people in-country.

 

Maniram Prashad, the Founder/President of the Guyana Oil & Gas Energy Chamber (GOGEC), expressed his pleasure at LNDCH4’s approach in sensitizing the business community and explaining the various opportunities available for Guyanese businesses, noting that he is optimistic that this project will be transformational for Guyana.

 

Nayteram Ramnarine, an Economist of the Private Sector Commission (PSC), stated that he found the trip valuable in providing insight into the timelines and processes involved in developing the Gas-To-Energy plant in Guyana. Ramnarine also pinpointed that he is committed to ensuring that all businesses within the PSC are fully prepared to capitalize on the opportunities arising from this project.

 

Kathy Smith, the Executive Secretary of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GCCI) who was also present emphasized the importance of the project’s phases towards the production of reliable and cost-effective energy sources for power generation. In addition, she said the job and local partnership opportunities that will arise from the project, which are expected to spur significant economic growth, particularly in the respective region.

 

Last December, the government signed a US$759M contract with CH4-Lindsayca to build two Natural Gas Plants at Wales. Under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract, CH4-Lindsayca will be responsible for the design, procurement and construction of the plants.
