Kevin Sooklall, also known as ‘Smokey’, a 38-year-old labourer of Onderneeming Village, West Coast Berbice (WCB), was charged today with the offence of ‘Attempt to commit Murder’ under section 103 (c) of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act Chapter 8:01.

Sooklall allegedly attempted to murder Trevor Blair, a 51-year-old Hopetown Village, West Coast Berbice labourer. The incident occurred on February 17, 2023, at Bel Air, West Coast Berbice. Sooklall managed to elude the police until he was captured on Saturday last (May 6th) in Berbice.

The accused appeared at the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Peter Hugh via Zoom, where the charge was read to him. He was not required to plea and was remanded to prison until May 18, 2023.
