Police in the city are investigating the death of 39-year-old Nakema Deonauth, who was found dead by his father, Rajendranauth Deonauth in a Regent Street apartment earlier today.

According to a source, Deonauth Snr, who owns Nesha’s Flowerland, would usually pick up his son and they would go have breakfast and open up the business. This morning he kept calling his son but there was no answer. The father then called the landlord for the spare key. After the apartment was opened, the businessman found his son dead. He raised an alarm and the police were called in.

Based on the injuries seen on his body, police suspect he was strangled.

Guyana Standard understands that Deonauth worked at the Ministry of Education as a Coordinator. He also held a PhD in Technology.

This is a developing story. More details will be provided in a subsequent report.
