In a recently published Request for Expression of Interest (REOI), Newrest Group Guyana, a prominent catering company operating in various hospitality segments, has expressed its intent to identify local suppliers to provide dairy products for its operations.

The company, which has been actively supporting the oil and gas industry in Guyana since 2019, noted that it aims to focus on local production and sustainability. The primary focus of Newrest’s procurement policy is to promote local food products and support the local economy while minimizing the carbon footprint, it said.

It is worth noting that the First Schedule of Guyana’s Local Content Act clearly outlines 40 sectors that prioritize the involvement of Guyanese businesses, including the catering domain. Contractors, sub-contractors, and licensees operating within Guyana are legally obligated to source 90% of their catering services from local Guyanese enterprises. Additionally, these entities are required to procure at least 75% of their food supplies from Guyanese businesses, ensuring a robust contribution to the local economy.

In line with its commitment to environmental responsibility, Newrest said it is keen on collaborating with qualified individuals or businesses within the Guyanese food industry who can supply the required products. The company has noted that it is particularly interested in working with suppliers who can demonstrate their dedication to reducing the environmental impact, such as optimizing logistics flows and reducing packaging. Compliance with the guidelines set by the Pesticides and Toxic Chemicals Control Board is also crucial. Furthermore, the company is seeking suppliers who have implemented or are in the process of implementing a traceability system based on the registration of shelf life or batch numbers.

The company has affirmed that as it continues to play a significant role in supporting the local oil & gas industry, its focus on local production and sustainability reflects its dedication to delivering high-quality services while contributing positively to the local community and environment.

Interested suppliers are encouraged to provide the necessary certifications and registration proofs, including documentation from the Center for Local Business Development as these documents will help demonstrate their eligibility and suitability to meet Newrest Group Guyana’s requirements.
