Two individuals have been arrested following the discovery of an AK-47 assault rifle in a Grove, East Bank of Demerara (EBD) home. The operation was carried out by detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department (C.I.D.), Special Branch, and Regional Division 4B.

The police team visited the residence of Elroy Scipio, a 47-year-old construction worker residing at Grove Housing Scheme, EBD. Upon their arrival, Michael Vanderstoop, a 36-year-old construction worker, also residing in the same area, was present at Scipio’s home.

A thorough search of the premises led to the discovery of an AK-47 rifle with its serial number intentionally removed. Additionally, a magazine wrapped in a white tarpaulin was found. Scipio and Vanderstoop were both questioned regarding their possession of a license for the firearm but chose to remain silent.

Subsequently, both individuals were informed of the charges against them, cautioned, and taken into custody. They were then escorted to the Diamond Police Station, where the firearm and magazine underwent fingerprint analysis.

The firearm and magazine were marked, secured in a Firearms Box, and stored at the station for further examination. Investigations are ongoing.
