Police are probing a tragic hit-and-run incident that occurred this morning at approximately 04:30 hrs. The incident involved motor lorry GAC 1443, registered to K. Bacchus from West Coast Berbice (WCB). It was being driven by Adzel Inniss, a 25-year-old driver residing in Burma Housing Scheme, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara (ECD). The other vehicle involved is a black Toyota Fielder Wagon, with the driver’s identity and registration number unknown.

Preliminary findings reveal that lorry GAC 1443 was traveling eastward along the northern side of Coldingen Public Road, ECD. It came to a halt on the roadside near Chico Ramas Gas Station, at which point the driver exited the vehicle and stepped onto the road, directly into the path of the black Fielder Wagon, which was also headed eastward in the northern driving lane.

As a result of the collision, the driver was thrown onto the roadway, sustaining injuries to his body. The unidentified vehicle involved in the incident fled the scene heading east. Good Samaritans passing by assisted in providing aid to the injured individual, who was then transported to Georgetown Public Hospital. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

His body is at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are actively pursuing leads in the case.
