GuyExpo 2023 heralds a transformative wave of oil-driven economic opportunities for Guyana’s private sector said Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips during the exhibition’s grand Thursday opening at the Sophia Exhibition Complex.

PM Phillips, stepping into the role of the President for the occasion, painted a vivid picture of the economic landscape being reshaped by the flourishing oil and gas industry. He emphasized that the expo serves as a gateway for businesses to harness the potential unleashed by this new resource base. Beyond a simple showcase, he said GuyExpo has always been regarded as a stage where the private sector is not just a witness but an active participant in the nation’s economic evolution.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the strategic efforts by authorities to diversify the economy and avoid the pitfalls of the Dutch disease. While acknowledging the significant role of the oil and gas industry in driving economic growth, Phillips underscored the government’s commitment to ensuring a balanced and resilient economic future.

As the exhibition unfolds, he said it becomes more than a platform for showcasing products and services. It stands as a symbol of collaboration between the public and private sectors, fostering an environment where businesses can thrive amidst a changing economic landscape. Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Oneidge Walrond, and her team have also received commendation for orchestrating the return of this much-anticipated exposition.

Under the theme “Transforming Guyana Through Investment, Innovation, and Resilience,” GuyExpo 2023 aligns with the government’s vision for a progressive and diversified economy.
