Under the chairmanship of President, Dr. Irfaan Ali, CARICOM Heads of Government will meet in Guyana for their 46th Regular Meeting in February. This was revealed by Finance Minister, Dr. Ashni Singh on Monday during his unveiling of the 2024 budget.

Dr. Singh said the meeting will place the spotlight on Guyana’s policy on food security as well as the nation’s lead role in this area within CARICOM. “The Government will ensure that we continue to prioritize the advancement of the agri-food systems agenda, taking into account food and nutrition security in regional and international fora,” the minister said.

Following that CARICOM engagement, Guyana will host the 38th Regional Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization for Latin America and the Caribbean in March. Minister Singh said this conference will provide an opportunity for the government to work closely with the FAO and countries in the region to deliberate on priorities in the agri-food sector.

Additionally, Minister Singh said Guyana will host a number of other important regional meetings this year. These include the Inter-American Development Bank’s (IADB’s) Caribbean Governors Pre-Annual General Meeting in February and the Caribbean Development Bank’s (CDB) Meeting of Contributors to the Bank’s Special Development Fund in March.
