Two teenage motorcyclists are now nursing injuries after they crashed on a road while trying to evade police.

The incident occurred about 19:25hrs on Tuesday last on the Enterprise Access Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD). The road is currently under construction.

The teens, a 17-year-old (name withheld by police) who was driving motorcycle CL 7572, and Ramesh Prashad, a 19-year-old who was driving motorcycle CK 2959, are both from Non-Pariel, ECD.

Initial inquiries disclosed that two police officers were on motorcycle patrol duties in the Enterprise area when they observed two persons on motorcycles riding in the area without lights.

Upon seeing the police, the two motorcyclists deviated onto the access road which leads to Enterprise backlands, where a new housing scheme is being developed.

At the time, motorcycle CL 7572 was proceeding east alongside motorcycle CK 2959 on the said road (still without lights) at a fast rate when one of the motorcyclists rode into a pile of ‘crush stones’ that was in the centre of the road. The motorcyclist lost control of his bike, causing both motorcyclists to fall onto the roadway and receive injuries to their bodies.

Meanwhile, the police ranks had lost sight of both motorcycles and subsequently, whilst proceeding in the direction that the motorcyclists had sped off to, heard a call for help and responded.

Based on the rank’s observations, an ambulance was summoned, and both motorcyclists were taken to Georgetown Public Hospital where they were admitted.

Investigations continue.
