Police in Regional Division Three are investigating an alleged suicide that occurred today at Hubu, East Bank Essequibo (EBE). It is alleged that Deonarine Bhukhan, also known as Billy, an 83-year-old pensioner, took his own life using a shotgun.

Inquiries revealed that the now deceased man resided alone in a one-story wooden and concrete structure.

On arrival at the scene, the deceased was seen lying on his back under his house, with a shotgun alongside his body and what appeared to blood on his head. He was clothed in burgundy pants and blue shirt.

The body was then examined, and what appears to be a gunshot wound was seen to the head.

The scene was processed, and a firearm license for one 16-gauge shotgun (A1055 AJN168) along with four live 16 guage cartridges were found. There was no evidence of forced entry to the premises.

The body was escorted to Leonora Cottage Hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty and later escorted to Ezekiel Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination

The firearm was marked, packaged, and lodged at the Leonora Police Station.

Investigations are ongoing.
