Police in Regional Division 4 ‘A’ are investigating a serious hit-and-run accident which occurred on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at approximately 19:00 hours on the Railway Embankment Road, Georgetown, near the Sheriff Street Roundabout.

The accident involved a motorcycle with registration number CK 5954, owned and driven by Shevon Payne, a 30-year-old resident of Lot 45 Canal Road, Standleytown, West Bank Demerara, and a black motor pickup with registration number PPP 2442 (owner’s name and address unknown).

Inquiries revealed that the motorcycle was traveling east along the northern lane of Railway Embankment Road, while the pickup was traveling west along the southern lane. As the two vehicles were passing each other, it is alleged that the driver of the pickup lost control and collided with the right side of the motorcycle.

The collision caused Payne to fall onto the road, resulting in injuries. The driver of the pickup fled the scene.

Payne was picked up in a conscious state by the Sheriff Medical Ambulance Service and transported to Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was examined and admitted in a stable condition.

Investigations are ongoing.
