Hours after Shell Mohamed unleashed a venomous ‘cussing’ on Guyanese Critic on Thursday last, Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo sought to draw a comparison between the man caught on camera venting, needing to be held back, and the man presented to Guyana some months ago as a pious Muslim.
Suggesting that Shell cannot be a sincere Muslim who simply lost his temper, Jagdeo told the media that performance represents the true nature of the metaphoric beast.
A few months back, Shell was featured in a video released to the Guyanese public where he lamented People’s Progressive Party (PPP) victimization. Shell spoke of the many ways his family helped the party, saying that a sudden shift in relations has left him befuddled. He declared then that he is an old man who wants to spend the rest of his days pleasing his creator. He said that he should not be penalized for being a father who wants to be supportive of his son’s political aspirations.
But on Thursday last, Shell took time out from pleasing his creator to highlight the ingratitude of someone he dubbed “worse than a stray.” Shell lamented the fact that his family fed Critic who turned out to be an “ungrateful dawg.”
He told Critic, “You are an ungrateful mother (expletive). You are one of the most ungrateful (expletive) dawg to ever live on the face of this earth and if you bother me, I will cuff ya in ya (expletive) face.”
Shell was then pulled away by one of his Azruddin’s lawyers and another person. From the distance, he beckoned to Critic, “People feed you, mine you, you are worse than a stray dawg.”
At his press conference, Jagdeo, who still enjoys a good relationship with Critic, suggested that the public should not condone Shell speaking to Critic in that manner.
Loosely referring to Critic as a reporter, Jagdeo said that if someone from the PPP or PNC were caught on camera hurling expletives at a reporter, that person would have been chastised. But in Shell’s case, he gets a pass.
Further, Jagdeo said, “They have this way of playing victims and invoking the name of God for everything, everyone else is ungodly. In his (Azurddin) bid for presidency, he promised integrity. But in the unguarded moments, you get to see the true nature of individuals.”
Recalling that Shell sold himself to the public as a pious man, Jagdeo chalked that up to Shell making a play to Guyanese of faith.
According to Jagdeo, the Shell caught on camera, “in that unguarded moment, hurling expletives and vile threats to a reporter” is the real Shell. Jagdeo said only in the curated environments will Shell get to portray the pious roles.
