While the APNU has said it is in possession Statements of Poll (SOPs) proving it won the 2020 elections, one of its election campaign managers at the time is claiming otherwise.
Specifically, APNU’s Operations Manager for their East Coast campaign during the 2020, Samuel Sandy, said categorically that the party lost the elections, based on his tabulations.
Recounting his role during the elections Sandy said, “I was the operations manager for the East Coast Campaign. I was responsible for collecting all SOPs, and I did take it upon myself to record the scores of every SOP received. I took pictures. I kept them. I still have them.”
Sandy, who also serves as Region Four Vice Chairman said he went to the Ashmin’s Building to share his tabulations but was confronted by a completely different turn of events.
He said, “I listened to the numbers being tabulated. I looked at my numbers, and I thought to myself, where might this be going? I think at that point it was more making a decision between supporting hope of a large section of society and that of personal integrity. I chose the former…”
Sandy said one of the main reasons for his decision included the fact that he lived in Golden Grove, a PNC stronghold. He was not prepared to deal with the consequences of speaking his truth at that time.
”How can I go home and say, hey, I just informed them that the numbers declared weren’t the actual numbers that I shared with the party,” said the former PNCR Member.
He admitted that he was afraid to speak up but has since made peace with himself and can actually say it as it is.
”So it doesn’t matter where it goes onwards. I think even in my letter to the party leader, I cautioned, well not really cautioned, I should say I begged of him to be honest with the people of Guyana and tell them that we lost the elections.”
Sandy was also keen to note that former President David Granger was not aware of the sinister plot that was afoot to rig the elections, otherwise, he would not have agreed to a recount of the votes. It is for these and other reasons Sandy said he cut ties with the PNC and has since endorsed the PPP/C administration for a second term in office.
