Dr. Terrance Campbell has been upfront about his disappointment with the performance of the APNU+AFC government from 2015 to 2020. However, he believes it would be a whole different ball game if APNU returns to office, mainly because the APNU of today “is a new entity.”
Dr. Campbell, a businessman turned politician, made these remarks during a recent interview on Election Insights.
He said that while he does not think APNU+AFC did “such a terrible job,” there was much that left him unhappy—so much so that he teamed up with Timothy Jonas, Ralph Ramkarran, and Henry Jeffery to start A New and United Guyana (ANUG) in 2020. However, he later left that movement because he felt “they were not as independent as they needed to be.”
Fast forward to today, Dr. Campbell is certain he is with APNU for the long haul, as he believes it is the only major political force in Guyana with a genuine interest in doing better.
He noted that the government of 2015 to 2020 was APNU+AFC, but “this is now APNU, and even in relation to the APNU then, it bears little resemblance to the APNU today. There has been an inflection point.”
Dr. Campbell pointed out that today’s APNU is led by Aubrey Norton, who was not part of the central apparatus between 2015 and 2020, but “was on the periphery.”
Furthermore, he stated, “There is no one who sat in central government with the APNU that is part of the APNU today. We can call it a new entity.”
