Police in Regional Division 3 are investigating a robbery that occurred on Wednesday June 3, 2026 about 20:15hrs at Uitkomst, Canal No. 1, West Bank Demerara.
The victim has been identified as a 64-year-old farmer of the said area.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was sitting under a shed on the lower flat of his residence with relatives when two males entered the yard. Both suspects were reportedly armed with what appeared to be handguns.
The suspects ordered the occupants to lie on the floor in the kitchen area and demanded valuables. The victim was allegedly assaulted during the incident and later led the suspects to a white bucket inside the home, where the cash was being kept.
The suspects then removed twelve million dollars ($12,000,000) Guyana currency from the bucket, along with four cellular phones valued at a total of four hundred thousand dollars ($400,000), before making good their escape in a silver-tinted Toyota Axio motor car, registration number unknown with registration number unknown.
No serious injuries were reported and no shots were fired.
Several persons were questioned. CCTV cameras were observed in the area and are to be reviewed as part of the investigation.
