A month after allegations of sexual assault, drug provision, and the solicitation of explicit images involving a female secondary school student and three male teachers on the Essequibo Coast surfaced, the survivor’s family is expressing deep concern over a perceived standstill in the official investigation.
Guyana Standard confirmed that forensic interviews with the student have been conducted by Blossom Inc., a non-governmental organization specializing in child protection.
However, the child’s father indicated that updates from law enforcement have stalled.
The father of the student told this publication, “Since a month passed the police said they sent up some filing to do some investigation and sent it to Georgetown. Up to now we hear nothing as yet.”
According to the father, the feedback from local authorities suggests the case file is awaiting legal advice.
The father also confirmed that the accused teachers have since been sent on administrative leave, but he remains worried that he will not receive a credible investigation due to systemic issues at the institution.
“We hear instances with the Sir them, where we hear about them coming out on tours, going and smoke, going back and teaching children them. That kind of thing,” the father stated. “Because that day when the incident happened, it was a school day. And then guys had weed on them, they had a lot of vape. They had arrangement for a guy to drop off more weed for them. And that was during school time, school day. Because the police got all the kind of evidence or so that one of them put out, gave their statement. Now you run through the phone. But we don’t know if them things don’t reach where they have to go.”
The allegations outline a timeline beginning on May 8, 2026, when two of the three male teachers involved in the scandal allegedly took the female student to a back dam. There, they reportedly gave her drugs and alcohol before sexually assaulting her. Further reports indicate that the third male teacher allegedly targeted the victim by asking her for nude pictures.
With a month having passed without the completion of the investigation, concerned parents have reached out to the Leader of the Opposition, Azruddin Mohamed for assistance.
In response to the delays, WIN has issued a call to the relevant authorities, including the Guyana Police Force, the Ministry of Education, and the Child Care and Protection Agency, to expedite and transparently address the matter.
