Police are investigating an alleged murder which occurred between Wednesday, June 24 and Thursday June 25, 2026, at De Groot-EnKline, Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara, resulting in the death of Shavannie Hanoman, called “Bo”, a 46-year-old housewife of the said area.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Hanoman was reported missing after she failed to return home on Wednesday.

On Thursday June 25, 2026, a body was discovered floating in a trench at De Groot-EnKline. Police were summoned and the body was removed and subsequently identified as Hanoman.

The body was examined and injuries were observed about the neck and other parts of the body. Hanoman was then escorted to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty, after which the body was taken to the Ezekiel Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

A 44-year-old male of De Groot-EnKline, Uitvlugt, was arrested and is presently in Police custody.

The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
