Police in Regional Division # 2 are investigating a fatal accident which occurred on Saturday June 27, 2026, about 13:30hrs, on Reliance Public Road, Essequibo Coast.
The accident involved motorcar PAM 8929, driven by a 46-year-old male of Coffee Grove, Essequibo Coast and motorcycle, CM 2631, driven by Satesh Persaud, 45, a construction worker of Reliance Housing Scheme, Essequibo Coast.
Initial enquiries revealed that the car was proceeding south along the eastern driving lane of Reliance Public Road, while the motorcycle was proceeding east from an access road located on the western side of the main road.
The motorcyclist reportedly drove onto the public road in an effort to cross over to an access street on the eastern side of the road and ended up in the path of the car, resulting in a collision.
As a result of the collision, Persaud fell onto the road surface and sustained injuries to his head.
He was picked up in an unconscious condition by public-spirited citizens and conveyed to the Lima Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The body was escorted to the Suddie Public Hospital Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver of the motor car and 48 micrograms of alcohol were found in his breath.
The driver is presently in police custody assisting with investigations.
