Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs Mohabir Anil Nandlall, SC, explained on Tuesday that the initiative is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to take development discussions directly to communities, engaging residents on the improvements they would like to see in their surroundings.
Speaking on his weekly programme Issues in the News, Minister Nandlall said the focus is on a range of community improvements, including street lighting, drainage, security, sanitation, recreational spaces, greenery and the removal of derelict vehicles and other materials.
“These concepts are the cornerstone of a civilised society,” he said
According to the AG, the consultations have also provided an opportunity for the president, ministers, technical officers and representatives of state agencies to engage directly with residents and identify their needs.
The AG noted that consultations have already been conducted in communities along the East Coast of Demerara, as well as in Regions Two and Six, with further engagements planned for other areas.
“Outreaches are an indispensable factor in our political work. They have always been. Outreaches, whether as a collective or by individual ministers, are a permanent feature of our work as a government,” AG Nandlall stated.
