Shaka Phillips, called ‘Concrete Man’, will be sentenced in September after he pleaded guilty to murder of teacher Jenel Pollydore at a wedding reception.

Phillips appeared yesterday in the Demerara High Court before Justice Priscilla Haniff where he pleaded guilty. He will be sentenced on September 30, 2026.

On July 18, 2025, Pollydore was shot dead during a wedding reception.
The court heard that on July 18, 2025, Pollydore was near the entrance of the hotel when Phillips approached and questioned her about not answering phone calls.
An argument allegedly ensued, during which Phillips took a handgun and shot her. Pollydore then ran into the hotel in an apparent attempt to flee, but Phillips reportedly pursued her and fired two more shots before leaving the scene. She collapsed inside the building and was later found unresponsive.
Responding officers discovered Pollydore’s body at the hotel. Investigators recovered two spent 9 mm shell casings from the scene.
The matter was adjourned to September 30 for sentencing.
