The motionless body of a young man was found in his home moments after he posted what has been widely considered a suicide note on Facebook.
Mark Primo known as Adaam Primo was discovered on Monday morning.
The circumstances of the death have not been independently confirmed, and authorities have not released official details.
In his post, Primo said there should be a voluntary mental-health facility where young people experiencing emotional distress can seek short-term support before reaching a crisis point.
“Guyana needs a mental health facility where young people can voluntarily check themselves in when life gets overwhelming, somewhere safe where you can step away from the world for a day or two, clear your mind talk to professionals, get help and just breathe without judgement. Too many of us are silently struggling and mental health deserves just as much attention as physical.”
Primo described months of severe emotional distress.
He explained that he spent approximately nine months struggling with mental health while continuing to appear “fine” around others. Primo described avoiding conversations about his wellbeing because he often could not explain what he was feeling or feared burdening others with it.
“I act like everything is perfectly fine,” he said. “Most times, it feels easier to hide and avoid questions or avoid being around people.”
He described the emotional impact of growing up without a consistent parental figure or mentor. Primo said in the post that he felt forced to navigate life alone, repeatedly facing setbacks without feeling he had someone safe to turn to for guidance or support.
Although he acknowledged having caring friends, he said he was reluctant to ask for help repeatedly, worrying that his friends were dealing with personal struggles of their own. The young man also described difficult family circumstances and a painful lack of the support he had hoped to receive from relatives.
Primo recounted prolonged sleep problems, of getting only a few hours of rest each night for weeks. He said the lack of sleep left him frightened and feeling as if he was losing control.
